A Media Hack
project by Alastair Otter
The Oscar Pistorius murder trial has been described as the trial of the century and it is headline news around the world. The trial is also the first South African trial to be televised live and the #OscarPistorius
hashtag dominates Twittter during court proceedings. To gauge the interest in the trial on Twitter I began collecting Oscar-related tweets a couple of weeks ago. The tables and graphs below try to illustrate the daily patterns.
Most active today
The chart below lists the most active Oscar tweeters today.
Tweets and active users per hour
The blue area represents the number of tweets (per hour) about the Oscar Pistorius trial. The red area is the number of Twitter users that tweeted about the trial during each hour of the day. The chart is updated hourly. (Change time period of graph by adding ?t=2h for hours or ?t=2d for days to the url)
Who tweeted the most during the Oscar Pistorius trial? The list below excludes RT and counts the most frequent tweeters of the trial.
The tweets collected cover combinations of the hashtags #OscarPistorius, #ReevaSteenkamp and #OscarTrial, as well as tweets referring to "Oscar Pistorius". Data collection was started on Sunday 17 March 2014 so is not a definitive summary of the entire Pistorius trial.
